Two Reds Prospects Are Raking in the Arizona Fall League
Reds fans, the offseason just got a little more fun. Two prospects are swinging hot bats out in the Arizona Fall League, and one of them is putting the front office on the clock.
Our Take: Carlos Sanchez is the headline, but Yerlin Confidan is the decision. His bat is making a 40-man roster spot hard to deny.
Per BVM Sports, the shortstop Sanchez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs as Peoria won on Monday. Through 13 games he's batting .304 with a .429 on-base percentage, four home runs, 13 RBIs, 15 runs scored and five steals in six tries. That has him second in the league in home runs and RBIs and third in runs scored.
Confidan kept rolling in the same win. BVM Sports has the outfielder at .364/.404/.659 with a 1.063 OPS through 11 games, riding a four-game hitting streak with multiple hits in three straight games. Over at Red Reporter, Wick Terrell noted Confidan went 7-for-12 last week and had three balls in play over 110 mph, per MLB Pipeline. Terrell also flagged catcher Alfredo Duno as the youngest player in the Venezuelan Winter League to homer so far this season.
Here's the catch: Cincinnati must add Confidan to its 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. Every multi-hit night makes that call a little easier.
What to watch: the final weeks of the Fall League schedule, and whether the Reds open a 40-man spot for Confidan when protection decisions come due. Keep raking, fellas.
