Noelvi Marte's Four-Hit Night in Winter Ball Is the Reset the Reds Needed
Reds fans, after a tough 2026, here's a box score worth smiling at. Noelvi Marte went 4-for-6 in the Dominican Winter League over the weekend.
Our Take: One winter night doesn't fix a season, but this is exactly what Marte needed: regular at-bats, hard contact and a little confidence heading into spring.
Playing for Gigantes del Cibao, Marte added a double, two RBI and a stolen base in a 12-11 loss, per Sports Illustrated's Reds coverage. BVM Sports reports he's hitting .346 with a .379 on-base percentage and a .423 slugging percentage through six winter games.
SI adds that he has two extra-base hits and four stolen bases in those six games. That matters because his big-league year in Cincinnati was rough. The tools have never been the question. Consistency has.
The Reds need cheap production, and a bounce-back from Marte would be the best kind. If he can carry this approach into February, he forces his way back into the conversation for real at-bats.
What to watch: how many games Marte keeps playing this winter and whether the extra-base hits show up. A batting average built on singles is nice; doubles and homers would say more about where his swing really is.
