Bring Back Geno? Why a One-Year Eugenio Suárez Reunion Makes Sense for the Reds

By , RedsNation ·

Reds fans, the offseason shopping list is long and the budget isn't getting any bigger. So here's a name worth keeping on the board: Eugenio Suárez.

Our Take: A short, incentive-heavy reunion with Suárez is the kind of smart, affordable power move the Reds need. One year, not two. Bring back Geno at the right price.

The facts first. Per MLB.com, the Reds went 75-87, and ownership stretched the budget in February to sign Suárez for more power, but Cincinnati "didn't fully get the results it sought." MLB.com lists third base, outfield and second base among the spots that could use hitting upgrades.

Per Blog Red Machine, Suárez made $15 million in 2026 and carries a $16 million mutual option for 2027 that the club is expected to decline. He still hit 26 homers, and from August 1 on he hit .235/.363/.523, a 141 wRC+. The site also credits him as a mentor to young players like Hector Rodriguez.

Spotrac projects his market at two years and $15.6 million, per Blog Red Machine. Writer Stephen Parello's own pitch is one year at $7.5 million with up to $1.6 million in incentives. That's his proposal, not a reported offer, but it's a sensible starting point.

What to watch: The option decision. Once the Reds decline the $16 million, the real question is whether Nick Krall circles back with a one-year offer.
